GKM-001

GKM-001 is an orally administered, liver-selective small molecule glucokinase activator (GKA) developed by Impetis Biosciences for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. By targeting glucokinase, the rate-limiting enzyme for glucose metabolism in the liver, GKM-001 enhances glucose uptake and utilization, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. The liver-selective profile is designed to avoid the potential for hypoglycemia and increased triglyceride levels associated with systemic glucokinase activation in the pancreas. The asset has completed 90-day safety studies and is prepared for a 12-week Phase IIb study to evaluate its effect on HbA1c.
