Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GL13K is a 13-amino-acid cationic antimicrobial peptide derived from the human salivary protein BPIFA2 (parotid secretory protein). Developed by researchers at the University of Minnesota and licensed to Gavia BIO, GL13K was engineered by introducing three lysine substitutions into the parent GL13NH2 sequence to increase its positive charge and confer bactericidal activity. GL13K physically binds to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, leading to membrane disruption and rapid cell death. It is primarily investigated for its activity against *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* biofilms and other drug-resistant bacterial infections, serving as the parent L-enantiomer for the protease-resistant D-enantiomer DGL13K (Minneganan).
