Overview

GLA-SE (Glucopyranosyl Lipid A in Stable Emulsion) is a synthetic Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist formulated in a stable nano-emulsion of squalene oil. Developed by the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI), it serves as a vaccine adjuvant designed to enhance Th1-type immune responses to co-administered antigens. The active component, glucopyranosyl lipid A (GLA), is a synthetic analog of lipid A. GLA-SE has been investigated in clinical trials for various infectious diseases, including HIV, influenza, leishmaniasis, and schistosomiasis, often in combination with protein subunit vaccines to induce potent antibody and cellular immunity.
