Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GLA5PR GLARS-NF3 is a controlled-release formulation of pregabalin developed by GL PharmTech for once-daily administration. It's designed to treat peripheral neuropathic pain with improved patient compliance compared to immediate-release pregabalin formulations that require multiple daily doses. The search results indicate that this drug has undergone clinical trials, with a Phase III study completed in South Korea that demonstrated its non-inferiority to immediate-release pregabalin capsules for treating peripheral neuropathic pain. The study showed that the once-daily administration of GLA5PR GLARS-NF3 was as effective as twice-daily immediate-release pregabalin in improving pain scores, sleep quality, anxiety, and depression in patients with peripheral neuropathic pain. GLA5PR GLARS-NF3 is part of a family of controlled-release pregabalin formulations that includes GLA5PR GLARS-NF1, which was also studied for neuropathic pain treatment. The total daily dose of pregabalin in these formulations ranges from 150-600 mg. The mechanism of action is likely similar to that of standard pregabalin, which works in the central nervous system by reducing the release of certain chemicals that signal for pain. Pregabalin is commonly used to treat nerve pain associated with conditions like diabetes, shingles, or spinal cord injury, as well as fibromyalgia pain and seizures in people with epilepsy. According to the search results, GL PharmTech completed a Phase III trial for neuropathic pain in South Korea in January 2019. The drug was being developed by Daewon Pharmaceutical. The clinical trial (NCT03221907 for the related NF1) demonstrated that GLA5PR GLARS-NF1 tablets can be effectively and safely administered to patients with peripheral neuropathic pain.
