Glargen

Glargen is a brand of insulin glargine, a long-acting recombinant human insulin analog used as basal insulin therapy to control hyperglycemia in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Insulin glargine differs from native human insulin by amino acid substitutions and an added arginine sequence that shift its isoelectric point, making it less soluble at physiological pH and leading to slow dissolution from the subcutaneous depot and a relatively peakless 24‑hour glucose-lowering effect. By activating the insulin receptor and downstream signaling pathways in muscle, adipose tissue, and liver, insulin glargine promotes cellular glucose uptake, inhibits hepatic glucose production, and modulates lipid and protein metabolism to improve overall glycemic control.[1][3][9][11]
