Glatiramer acetate + n-acetylcysteine is an investigational drug combination studied for the treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Glatiramer acetate is a synthetic immunomodulator composed of four amino acids that mimic myelin basic protein and acts as a decoy to divert immune attacks away from myelin in the central nervous system. Its mechanism involves shifting T cell populations from proinflammatory Th1 to anti-inflammatory Th2 cells and inducing regulatory T cells that suppress inflammation[1][4][6]. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is an antioxidant and glutathione precursor with mucolytic properties and established use as an antidote for acetaminophen overdose; it also exhibits neuroprotective effects by reducing oxidative stress[5][8]. The combination has been shown in early clinical studies to be safe and well tolerated in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis[3].
