Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GLAUMAX is an ophthalmic solution containing latanoprost (0.005%), a prostaglandin F2α analogue. Developed and manufactured by the Estonian pharmaceutical company AS Kevelt, it was the first generic version of Pfizer's Xalatan to be registered in the European Union. GLAUMAX is indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in adults and children with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Its mechanism of action involves acting as a selective agonist for the prostaglandin F (FP) receptor, which increases the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor from the eye. This reduction in pressure helps prevent optic nerve damage and potential blindness. It is typically administered as a once-daily topical eye drop, usually in the evening.
