GLB-COV2-043 is an investigational mRNA-based vaccine developed for the prevention of COVID-19. It encodes the full-length, nonstabilized SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and is formulated in a lipid nanoparticle (LNP) carrier. The vaccine uses modified nucleotides (pseudouridine) to enhance stability and translation efficiency. Preclinical studies in rodents demonstrated that GLB-COV2-043 induces robust spike-specific binding and neutralizing antibodies, as well as significant T cell responses with a Th1 bias. In animal models, it provided protection against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants including ancestral, Alpha (B.1.1.7), Beta (B.1.351), Omicron BA.1, and XBB.1.5 strains by reducing morbidity and viral replication in the lungs and nasopharynx[3][2]. The vaccine is being evaluated as a booster dose for adults previously vaccinated with mRNA vaccines such as BNT162b2/Comirnaty[4][5]. Clinical development has reached Phase 1/2 trials.
