GLCP-046-1

GLCP-046-1 is a small molecule neuroprotective agent developed by Galenicap for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke, specifically targeting the 'golden hour' window. It functions as an inhibitor of Gap junction alpha-1 protein (Connexin 43 or Cx43) hemichannels. In the context of a stroke, the pathological opening of these hemichannels in astrocytes and neurons facilitates the release of toxic metabolites and the disruption of ionic gradients, which exacerbates neuronal death. By selectively blocking Cx43 hemichannels, GLCP-046-1 aims to reduce secondary brain injury and improve functional recovery in patients.
