Overview

GLCP-079-1 is a first-in-class small molecule virulence inhibitor being developed by Galenicap for the treatment of severe respiratory infections, particularly those caused by *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. The drug acts by targeting the bacterial Type III Secretion System (T3SS), a complex protein apparatus used by Gram-negative pathogens to inject effector toxins directly into host cells, thereby evading the immune system and causing tissue damage. By inhibiting T3SS, GLCP-079-1 reduces bacterial virulence without exerting direct bactericidal pressure, potentially minimizing the development of antibiotic resistance. It is currently in preclinical development and is designed for pulmonary delivery via inhalation.
