Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glibenclamide + metformin is a fixed-dose combination oral anti-diabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It combines two agents with complementary mechanisms of action. Glibenclamide (also known as glyburide) is a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. Metformin is a biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. This combination helps improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone are insufficient[1][3][4][5].
