Gliboral

Gliboral is an oral antidiabetic medication containing glibenclamide (also known as glyburide), a second-generation sulfonylurea. Developed and marketed by Laboratori Guidotti, it is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus when dietary management, exercise, and weight reduction are insufficient to control blood glucose levels. Gliboral works by binding to and inhibiting ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in the plasma membrane of pancreatic beta cells. This inhibition leads to cell depolarization, the opening of voltage-gated calcium channels, and a subsequent influx of calcium that triggers the exocytosis of insulin granules. The drug is typically administered as 5 mg oral tablets.
