glibornuride

Glibornuride is an oral antidiabetic drug of the sulfonylurea class used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. Like other sulfonylureas, it lowers blood glucose by stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. This is achieved through inhibition of ATP-sensitive potassium channels (sulfonylurea receptor 1/SUR1), leading to cell membrane depolarization and subsequent opening of voltage-dependent calcium channels, which increases intracellular calcium and triggers insulin release. It is typically prescribed when diet and exercise alone are insufficient for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.
