Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Diaretin M is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing the second-generation sulfonylurea **gliclazide** and the biguanide **metformin**. It is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients whose glycemia is not adequately controlled by diet, exercise, and monotherapy. Gliclazide acts by stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells through the inhibition of ATP-sensitive potassium channels. Metformin improves glucose tolerance by decreasing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. The product is marketed by CND Pharma as a finished pharmaceutical formulation for export and distribution.
