Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A triple combination antidiabetic medication containing glimepiride, metformin, and pioglitazone. Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. Metformin is a biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production, increases insulin sensitivity, and reduces intestinal glucose absorption. Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinedione that improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. This combination is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus when single or dual therapy is inadequate.
