Overview

The combination of glimepiride and ranibizumab is being studied for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This combination therapy is part of a multicenter, open-label randomized controlled clinical trial protocol where it serves as a control group, being compared to the combination of luseogliflozin and ranibizumab. Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea medication used for managing type 2 diabetes as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It works by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. Ranibizumab is an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agent administered through intravitreal injection, and is a first-line therapy for diabetic macular edema.
