Overview

Globalagliatin (LY2608204) is a small molecule glucokinase activator (GKA) developed by Eli Lilly and Company for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a glucokinase activator, it functions as a glucose sensor in pancreatic beta cells and the liver, stimulating insulin secretion and promoting hepatic glucose uptake and storage. This dual mechanism aims to lower blood glucose levels more effectively than traditional therapies. In 2014, Eli Lilly entered a strategic partnership with Yabao Pharmaceutical to co-develop the compound in China, while Lilly retained rights for the rest of the world. However, clinical development was discontinued around 2016 following Phase 2 trials.
