Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GlobiFer Marine is an oral iron supplement developed by GlobiFer International (now a part of Ceres Pharma) specifically formulated to address iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia, with a focus on women's health. The product utilizes iron bisglycinate, a chelated form of iron where the mineral is bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine. This chelation protects the iron from being neutralized by dietary inhibitors and enhances its absorption through the intestinal mucosa via the dipeptide pathway. Compared to traditional inorganic iron salts like ferrous sulfate, iron bisglycinate offers superior bioavailability and a significantly lower incidence of gastrointestinal side effects, such as nausea and constipation, making it a preferred option for long-term supplementation.
