Overview

Globularia cordifolia is a perennial flowering plant native to the mountains of central and southern Europe, commonly known as heart-leaved globe daisy. Extracts from this plant, including callus culture extracts, are rich in phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Scientific studies have demonstrated that Globularia cordifolia extract exhibits strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiproliferative properties. In vitro research has shown significant cytotoxic effects against colon cancer cells and a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines[1][9]. The extract also demonstrates effective iron chelation capacity and high total phenolic content[1]. In cosmetics, callus culture extracts (sometimes marketed under trade names like Resistem) are used for their skin-soothing effects—reducing redness, supporting skin regeneration, protecting against oxidative stress, detoxifying damaged proteins from the skin surface, and potentially increasing superoxide dismutase activity[2][3][5][6]. Traditional uses of Globularia species include diuretic, laxative, stomachic applications as well as treatment for hemorrhoids in folk medicine[8].
