Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glocarbazine (brand name: GLOCARBAZIN) is an oral generic formulation of procarbazine, a cytotoxic methylhydrazine-derived alkylating agent developed and manufactured by Globela Pharma. It is primarily used in combination chemotherapy regimens for the treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma (such as the MOPP or BEACOPP regimens) and certain brain tumors, including gliomas and glioblastoma multiforme. Glocarbazine acts as a prodrug that undergoes hepatic and renal metabolic activation to generate highly reactive methylating intermediates. These active metabolites directly alkylate DNA, leading to chromosomal damage, double-strand breaks, and the inhibition of DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis, which ultimately triggers apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells.
