Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GLP-1 + dexamethasone is a combination drug consisting of a glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) and dexamethasone. GLP-1 RAs are incretin mimetics that activate the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor, leading to increased insulin secretion, decreased glucagon release, slowed gastric emptying, and reduced appetite. These effects improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetes and promote weight loss[4]. Dexamethasone is a synthetic corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties; it acts by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor to modulate gene expression involved in inflammation[3]. The combination may be considered for specific clinical scenarios where both glycemic control (or weight management) and anti-inflammatory action are desired.
