Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GLP-1 CellBeads is a cell-based therapy designed to deliver glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) in a sustained manner. The product consists of encapsulated cells engineered to secrete GLP-1, a peptide hormone that acts as an incretin. The mechanism of action involves continuous local or systemic release of GLP-1, which stimulates insulin secretion in response to elevated blood glucose, inhibits glucagon release, slows gastric emptying, and reduces appetite. These combined effects help regulate blood sugar levels and promote weight loss. While traditional GLP-1 receptor agonists are used for type 2 diabetes and obesity[2][7], the cell-based delivery approach aims to provide long-term therapeutic benefit without frequent injections.
