GLP-140 is a specific glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonist utilized primarily in preclinical research to investigate the metabolic and cardiovascular effects of incretin-based therapies. As a GLP-1 receptor agonist, it mimics the action of the endogenous GLP-1 hormone, which promotes glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying. In experimental models, such as the human-like APOE*3-Leiden.CETP mouse model, GLP-140 has been evaluated for its ability to improve glycemic control and reduce body weight. It is frequently studied in combination with GIP receptor agonists (e.g., GIPFA-085) to assess synergistic effects on atherosclerosis severity, systemic low-grade inflammation, and lipid handling, including the reduction of plasma triglycerides and enhancement of VLDL turnover.
