Overview
GLP-1B is an orally bioavailable small-molecule agonist of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) being developed by Hinova Pharma (Grupo Hinova). As a non-peptide small molecule, it is designed to provide a more convenient oral alternative to traditional injectable peptide-based GLP-1 therapies. The drug is currently in Phase 1/2 clinical development for the treatment of metabolic disorders, specifically obesity and type 2 diabetes. By activating the GLP-1 receptor, GLP-1B stimulates glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon release, and promotes satiety, thereby addressing key pathological features of diabetes and obesity. Hinova is also exploring the potential of GLP-1B in combination therapies for broader metabolic indications, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
