Overview

GLP2-ELP is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein consisting of a glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2) analogue (specifically teduglutide) genetically fused to an elastin-like polypeptide (ELP) biopolymer. Developed by PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals, it is designed to treat short bowel syndrome (SBS) by activating the GLP-2 receptor to enhance intestinal growth and absorptive capacity. The proprietary ELP fusion technology is engineered to extend the circulating half-life of the peptide and provide sustained-release properties, potentially enabling a once-weekly subcutaneous dosing regimen. This represents a significant improvement over existing GLP-2 therapies that require more frequent administration. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that the GLP-2-ELP fusion has a significantly greater effect on small intestine growth compared to teduglutide alone.
