Overview
GLPG-0259 is a small molecule inhibitor of mitogen‑activated protein kinase–activated protein kinase 5 (MAPKAPK5), developed by Galapagos for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. It represents a novel mechanism of action in RA therapy by targeting MAPKAPK5—a kinase involved in inflammation and cartilage breakdown—demonstrating bone protection and reduced inflammation in preclinical models. The drug has completed Phase I clinical trials showing good safety and pharmacokinetics profiles supporting once-daily oral dosing and has advanced to Phase II studies for rheumatoid arthritis[3][4][6][8].
