Overview

GLPG-0492 is a non-steroidal, orally available small molecule that acts as a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM). Developed by Galapagos, it has been investigated primarily for the treatment of cachexia (involuntary loss of weight and muscle mass) and muscular dystrophy, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The drug functions as a partial agonist of the androgen receptor, exhibiting robust anabolic activity in muscle tissue while minimizing traditional androgenic side effects on reproductive tissues such as the prostate. Preclinical studies demonstrated its ability to improve muscle mass and function with minimal cardiovascular or virility-related adverse effects. Clinical trials have shown good safety and pharmacokinetic profiles supporting once-daily oral dosing[1][4][5][6].
