Overview

**GLPG1492** is a narrow-spectrum small molecule antibiotic developed by Galapagos NV with a novel mechanism of action demonstrating potent in vitro bactericidal activity and in vivo efficacy against all known strains of *Staphylococcus aureus*, including methicillin-resistant *S. aureus* (MRSA). Its mode of action is scalable to gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens, including ESKAPE bacteria, addressing major public health threats. Pre-clinical data supported planned Phase 1 dosing in healthy volunteers in the second half of 2014, with additional funding from a €2.5 million IWT grant for antibiotic research.
