GLS-W1100 is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of the bacterium *Lactobacillus crispatus*, developed by Hangzhou Grand Biopharmaceutical (a subsidiary of China Grand Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Holdings) for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV). The drug is designed to restore the natural vaginal microecology, which is typically dominated by *Lactobacillus* species in healthy individuals. By colonizing the vaginal environment, *L. crispatus* produces lactic acid to maintain a low pH and secretes antimicrobial substances such as hydrogen peroxide and bacteriocins, which collectively inhibit the overgrowth of anaerobic pathogens like *Gardnerella vaginalis*. GLS-W1100 is currently in Phase 2 clinical development in China, aiming to provide a biological alternative or adjunct to traditional antibiotic therapy for BV and its recurrence.
