Glubran 2 is a synthetic surgical tissue adhesive composed of N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate and metacryloxysulfolane, developed and manufactured by GEM Italy. It is a medical device designed for use in both internal and external surgical procedures to provide sealing, hemostasis, and tissue adhesion. When applied to moist tissue or body fluids, the liquid monomer polymerizes rapidly into a strong, flexible film that creates a physical barrier against leaks and bleeding. In the context of pancreatic surgery, specifically pancreaticoduodenectomy, it is being investigated by Minia University in a Phase 2 trial to reinforce pancreaticojejunostomy anastomoses, thereby reducing the incidence of postoperative pancreatic fistula. The product also exhibits bacteriostatic properties, which may help prevent surgical site infections.
