Overview

Glubran 2 is a synthetic surgical glue and hemostatic agent composed of two monomers: n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) and methacryloxysulfolane (MS). When it comes into contact with living tissue or moist environments containing ions, the monomers undergo a rapid exothermic polymerization reaction, creating a thin, elastic film with high tensile strength that adheres firmly to tissues. The inclusion of methacryloxysulfolane is a key modification that allows polymerization to occur at a lower temperature (approximately 45°C) compared to pure NBCA glues, reducing tissue thermal damage while providing greater flexibility to the resulting polymer. This combination is used for a variety of indications including hemostasis, tissue sealing, and wound closure across surgical, endoscopic, and endovascular procedures. It also possesses bacteriostatic properties that help prevent surgical site infections.
