Glucagon + somatostatin is a combination of two peptide hormones, each with distinct but complementary physiological effects. Glucagon is a hormone produced by pancreatic alpha cells that raises blood glucose levels by stimulating glycogen breakdown and gluconeogenesis in the liver. Somatostatin, produced in the hypothalamus, pancreas, and gastrointestinal tract, acts as an inhibitory hormone that suppresses the release of several other hormones including growth hormone (GH), insulin, and glucagon itself.
