Overview

Glucagon + somatostatin is a combination of two peptide hormones, each with distinct but complementary physiological effects. Glucagon is a hormone produced by pancreatic alpha cells that raises blood glucose levels by stimulating glycogen breakdown and gluconeogenesis in the liver. Somatostatin, produced in the hypothalamus, pancreas, and gastrointestinal tract, acts as an inhibitory hormone that suppresses the release of several other hormones including growth hormone (GH), insulin, and glucagon itself. When used together as a combination therapy or research tool, this pairing can modulate complex metabolic pathways involving glucose homeostasis and hormonal regulation. The combination may be studied for its effects on endocrine tumors or metabolic disorders where simultaneous modulation of multiple hormonal axes is desired.
