This drug is a combination of two incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). Both are gut-derived peptides that play key roles in the regulation of glucose metabolism. GLP-1 stimulates insulin secretion, inhibits glucagon release from pancreatic alpha cells, slows gastric emptying, and increases satiety.
