Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GluCl peptide vaccine is an experimental, preclinical peptide-based vaccine designed to target the glutamate-gated chloride channel (GluCl) in ticks. Developed by researchers at Thomas Jefferson University, the vaccine is intended for administration to host animals. It induces a strong antibody response against GluCl, an essential ion channel in ticks that is also the target of the acaricide ivermectin. When ticks feed on the vaccinated host, they ingest these antibodies, which disrupt the GluCl channels and cause high tick mortality. This One Health approach aims to turn host animals into biological reservoirs that control tick populations and interrupt the transmission of tick-borne diseases.
