Overview

Glucobrassicin is a naturally occurring indole glucosinolate found in cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage, as well as in the traditional Chinese medicine herb Northern Ban Lan (*Isatis tinctoria*). It serves as the precursor to bioactive indoles, primarily indole-3-carbinol (I3C) and 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM), which are released upon enzymatic hydrolysis by myrosinase or gut microbiota. Glucobrassicin itself has been shown to possess anti-microtubule activity, disrupting microtubule networks and inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. Its downstream metabolites, I3C and DIM, exhibit chemopreventive, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties by modulating the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), estrogen receptor signaling, and cellular detoxification pathways.
