Overview

Glucocappasalin is a natural product glucosinolate derived from the seeds of *Descurainia sophia* (L.) Webb. ex Prantl. It exhibits potent antitumor activity, particularly against cervical carcinoma cell lines such as HeLa, Siha, and Ca Ski. Its mechanism of action involves the dual inhibition of Cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) and Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1), which leads to G2/M phase cell cycle arrest. Additionally, glucocappasalin induces apoptosis through the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway, characterized by the activation of caspases 3 and 9 and the cleavage of PARP. It also triggers autophagy by suppressing the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. Preclinical in vivo studies using HeLa xenograft models have demonstrated that glucocappasalin significantly reduces tumor growth with low systemic toxicity, making it a potential candidate for the treatment of cervical cancer.
