Glucocorticoids + inebilizumab is a combination therapy being evaluated for the treatment of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). Inebilizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets CD19, a cell surface antigen present on B cells, including plasmablasts and plasma cells, leading to their depletion. Glucocorticoids, such as prednisone, are steroid hormones used for their potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. In the context of the STARGlu-NMO trial conducted by Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, this combination is studied to determine the optimal tapering strategy for oral glucocorticoids (slow vs. rapid) following the initiation of inebilizumab to prevent disease relapses in AQP4-IgG-positive patients.
