Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glucokinase siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to selectively knock down the expression of glucokinase (GCK), a key enzyme that acts as a glucose sensor and gatekeeper of glycolysis in the liver and pancreatic beta cells. In laboratory research, glucokinase siRNA is utilized as a tool to study the role of glucokinase in glucose sensing, glycolysis, lactate production, and the pathogenesis of metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. By silencing GCK gene expression, researchers can evaluate the downstream metabolic effects of reduced glucokinase activity, such as decreased lactate secretion and altered glucose-regulated hormone release.
