Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glucolevel (also marketed as Glucose Level) is a traditional Arab herbal medicine-based botanical mixture containing dry leaf extracts of four plants: walnut (*Juglans regia*), olive (*Olea europaea*), nettle (*Urtica dioica*), and saltbush (*Atriplex halimus*). Developed through collaboration between the Galilee Society, the Antaki Center for Herbal Medicine, Al-Qasemi Research Center, and the Arab American University, and commercialized by Sprunk-Jansen, this combination is designed to help regulate blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. The mixture acts via multiple synergistic mechanisms: the olive and walnut leaf extracts act as alpha-glucosidase inhibitors to reduce intestinal carbohydrate absorption, the nettle extract decreases hepatic glucose production, and the saltbush extract potentiates insulin action to facilitate glucose uptake into muscle and fat cells. Clinical and preclinical studies have demonstrated its safety, tolerability, and efficacy in lowering fasting blood glucose and HbA1c levels.
