Overview

Glucomoringin isothiocyanate (GMG-ITC), also known as moringin, is a bioactive secondary metabolite derived from the seeds of *Moringa oleifera*. It is produced through the enzymatic hydrolysis of the glucosinolate glucomoringin by the enzyme myrosinase. GMG-ITC has demonstrated significant anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic activity in various cancer models, particularly prostate cancer (PC-3 cells). Its mechanism of action involves the induction of G2/M phase cell cycle arrest and the activation of apoptotic pathways, including the upregulation of p53, Bax, JNK, and Bad, and the activation of caspases, while modulating the Akt/MAPK signaling pathway. Research suggests its potential as a future cytotoxic agent for cancer chemotherapy.
