Glucoraphanin is a naturally occurring alkylglucosinolate found in broccoli, mustard, and other cruciferous vegetables. It acts as a stable precursor to sulforaphane and is converted into this bioactive compound by the enzyme myrosinase—either from plant tissue or gut microbiota—upon ingestion. Sulforaphane is known for its ability to activate the Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway (Keap1-Nrf2-ARE), leading to upregulation of cytoprotective phase 2 enzymes involved in antioxidant defense and detoxification. Glucoraphanin has been studied for its potential benefits in ameliorating obesity-induced insulin resistance and inflammation by activating Nrf2-dependent pathways. It is under investigation as an investigational small molecule in clinical trials for conditions such as advanced pancreatic cancer[1][2][4][5][6].
