Overview

Vigorine is a brand name for crystalline glucosamine sulfate, a pharmaceutical-grade amino sugar used as a symptomatic slow-acting drug for osteoarthritis (SYSADOA). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly of the knee, where it helps to reduce pain and improve joint function. The mechanism of action involves providing a substrate for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans in the articular cartilage matrix and synovial fluid. Additionally, Vigorine exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) signaling pathway and the activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), which in turn reduces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that degrade cartilage. Originally developed by Rottapharm, Vigorine is widely recognized as the reference medicinal product for glucosamine sulfate in various international markets, including China and Europe.
