Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Unidex-5 is an intravenous infusion solution containing 5% glucose (dextrose) in water, manufactured by Unique Pharmaceuticals. It is widely used in clinical settings for fluid replacement, hydration, and as a source of carbohydrates and calories for patients who cannot maintain adequate oral intake. It is also indicated for the treatment of hypoglycemia. Upon administration, glucose is transported into cells via glucose transporters (such as GLUT1, GLUT2, and GLUT4) and phosphorylated by hexokinases to enter glycolysis, providing essential cellular energy and maintaining hydration without causing significant electrolyte imbalances.
