Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glicofisiológica (glucose-saline solution) is a sterile, non-pyrogenic parenteral solution containing a combination of glucose and sodium chloride. It is widely used for fluid and electrolyte replenishment, as well as a source of calories (energy) in patients suffering from dehydration, diarrhea, vomiting, burns, shock, trauma, or during postoperative recovery. The glucose component is rapidly metabolized to provide immediate energy, preventing the breakdown of proteins and lipids and avoiding ketosis, while the sodium chloride component helps restore electrolyte balance and maintain osmotic pressure. The solution is administered via intravenous infusion and is also commonly used as a vehicle for the dilution and administration of other compatible injectable medications.
