Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Carnidial is a specialized peritoneal dialysis (PD) solution developed by Iperboreal Pharma for patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). It is unique among PD solutions for its inclusion of levocarnitine (L-carnitine), which is intended to address the systemic carnitine deficiency frequently observed in dialysis patients. Systemic carnitine depletion in ESKD is associated with impaired fatty acid oxidation, muscle weakness, and cardiovascular complications. The solution utilizes glucose monohydrate as the primary osmotic agent to facilitate ultrafiltration (removal of excess water) across the peritoneal membrane. Additionally, it contains a balanced profile of essential electrolytes—sodium chloride, calcium chloride dihydrate, and magnesium chloride hexahydrate—along with sodium lactate, which serves as a buffering agent to correct metabolic acidosis. By combining standard dialysis components with carnitine supplementation, the drug aims to improve the metabolic and nutritional status of ESKD patients while performing the essential functions of renal replacement therapy.
