Overview
Glucosil is a proprietary silver-chitosan antimicrobial technology developed by Chitosan Health. It is designed as a platform for coating or embedding within medical textiles (such as scrubs, linens, and privacy curtains) and medical devices (including catheters and silicone-based components) to prevent healthcare-associated infections. The technology combines the antimicrobial properties of silver ions with chitosan, a natural biopolymer. Chitosan's positive charge attracts negatively charged pathogens, while silver ions facilitate their destruction and the penetration of protective biofilms. Glucosil has demonstrated preclinical efficacy against a range of high-priority pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Clostridioides difficile, Candida auris, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, without promoting significant bacterial resistance.
