Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GlucoStem is an off-the-shelf, universal cell therapy being developed by Escape Therapeutics for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes. Utilizing the proprietary PluraStem™ embryonic stem cell platform, the therapy consists of allogeneic, immune-evasive pancreatic β cells designed to be transplanted into patients of any HLA type without requiring lifelong immunosuppression. The primary goal of GlucoStem is to restore endogenous insulin production by replacing or supplementing the pancreatic β cells destroyed by autoimmune attack, potentially liberating patients from insulin dependence. The product is currently in the research stage of development.
