Overview

Glucothera Plus is an L-carnitine-enriched peritoneal dialysis (PD) solution developed by Iperboreal Pharma S.r.l. for the treatment of patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Chronic dialysis often leads to systemic carnitine deficiency, which is associated with metabolic complications, muscle wasting, and erythropoietin-resistant anemia. By incorporating L-carnitine (levocarnitine) into the dialysis fluid, Glucothera Plus aims to restore carnitine levels and improve mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation and overall metabolic health in patients undergoing chronic peritoneal dialysis. It is currently being evaluated in the Phase III ASTRA trial, specifically focusing on pediatric patients with ESKD.
