Glucotropaeolin is a natural benzyl glucosinolate primarily found in plants of the Brassicaceae family, such as *Tropaeolum majus* (garden nasturtium) and *Carica papaya* (papaya). It serves as a precursor to benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC), which is released upon enzymatic hydrolysis by myrosinase. Research indicates that glucotropaeolin possesses significant anticancer properties, particularly against pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), liver, and colon cancer cells. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of apoptosis through calcium dysregulation, accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and alteration of mitochondrial membrane potential. Notably, it suppresses the expression of Forkhead box protein M1 (FOXM1), a key transcription factor involved in cell proliferation and migration, thereby inhibiting the aggressive characteristics of cancer cells.
