Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Gluscan** is a branded radiopharmaceutical containing fludeoxyglucose (18F), a fluorine-18-labeled glucose analog used as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent. It assesses glucose metabolism, which is elevated in cancer cells, aiding in tumor detection, staging, and monitoring, as well as diagnosing heart disease and epilepsy. Developed by Advanced Accelerator Applications (AAA), now part of Novartis, it is administered intravenously under medical supervision for diagnostic purposes only, with a short shelf life due to the radioactive isotope.[1][2][3][5][9]
